Application Process - by Mail

The Kimball Foundation does not give to individuals and all applicants must have 501(c)(3) and 509(a) IRS Tax Classification status. Your lawyer or accountant can help in this regard, if you are a newly created organization or are unsure what this status is.

Three main things are needed to apply for funds from the Foundation:

1. A letter of intent or purpose. Identify:
• what monies needed and what they will be used for
• what your organization's goals are, and
• a brief history of past accomplishments.

2. A financial statement. Include a list of current assets, liabilities, sources of income and operation expenses (including personnel costs).

3. Verification of 501(c)(3) and 509(a) status. If you have supplied the Kimball Foundation with copies of these documents from the IRS in previous requests, then just provide the identification numbers and the date of their issuances. (These numbers appear in the upper right hand corner of the documents supplied by the IRS.) If this is your organization's first request for funding from the Foundation, please provide the identification numbers, the date of issuances and a copy of these documents.

It should also be noted that any requests received after July 15th of any year will run the risk of not being considered in that year being that the meetings for distribution of gifts are held in March, June, August and October. Please submit your request applications with this schedule in mind.

This website allows you to apply online. The Kimball Foundation realizes that some charitable organizations are not equipped with the necessary computer related equipment to make application "on-line". Most public libraries have facilities and equipment to allow you to access online applications. As a result, the Foundation will still take applications by mail, however we will not be able to process these as rapidly. Hence, we encourage all applicants to use the Internet wherever possible.

Above all, please be patient. All requests are carefully reviewed. Unfortunately, the Foundation can not accommodate everyone. If you do not hear from us in a reasonable amount of time following your application, you may assume that your request was not acted upon favorably. Please feel free, however, to apply again.
